Tropical Realty Charity Golf Tournament: 2009
The fifth annual Tropical Realty Charity Golf Tournament was held at Savannahs Golf Club in North Merritt Island on April 26, 2009 at 7:30 a.m. The event attracted 120 players some of which were playing for their 5th consecutive year with the Tropical Realty Charity Golf Tournament.
All the agents, their friends and associates did an amazing job seeking local business and community support for sponsors and prizes. “The team at Tropical Realty did a phenomenal job to secure some great prizes. In the end, not one player went home without a gift”. “At the same time, we raised $13,000 towards Sturge-Weber Sydnrome” reported Mitch Ribak, Broker/Owner of Tropical Realty of Suntree, Inc.
This year also included the first Helicopter Drop. Tropical's Agents and family members sold approximately 2,000 golf balls that were dropped from 200 feet onto the green from a helicopter. The ball closest to the pin won a 42 inch flat screen tv! Second place won a $250 gift card. The helicopter drop was responsible for over $3,000 of our the tournament revenues this year!
Over the past five years, Tropical Realty has raised almost $30,000 for multiple sclerosis and another $10,000 for Sturge Weber. This year, as we did last year, the company highlighted a rare and devastating disease affecting children. Sturge-Weber Syndrome (SWS). SWS is an obscure neurological disorder that affects roughly 1 in 20,000 children.
"My 3 year old Granddaughter, Lola, was diagnosed with this scary disease 6 months after she was born. It’s been tough on the whole family and we have pledged to do as much as possible to help fund the research that is necessary to find a cure,” said Ribak.
Monies raised were donated to the Hunter Nelson Sturge-Weber Center at Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore, Maryland. The Institute is one of the very few places in the country that is set up to study and research this disease. Dr. Anne Comi, of the Institute, one of the world’s few experts on SWS, “has helped us through two seizures so far that Lola has endured,” Ribak said. “Dr. Comi devotes her life to fighting and treating ‘orphan diseases,’ conditions afflicting so few victims that drug companies have no financial incentive to study them. She is wonderful,” Ribak explained.
Tropical Realty would like to extend their sincere gratitude to all those people who generously gave their time and donations to help aid research for the Sturge-Weber Syndrome.
Ribak says, "we have already started working on our 2010 golf tournament. It's a lot of work but that doesn't stop us as we know how much the money is needed for Sturge Weber."
