ABOUT

Merritt Island is not just a name – it's an actual island!  Merritt Island is surrounded by the Banana River on the eastern side and the Indian River on the western side, a part of the Inter-Coastal water system that feeds into the Atlantic Ocean.

Access to Merritt Island is incredibly easy.  It's only a 38 mile trip to the Orlando International Airport.  But if you want to provide your own air transportation, Merritt Island has its own small airport for private planes.  And add plenty of waterfront access for your boat, there is no shortage of transportation around the Island.

Merritt Island is home to many animals and birds including American bald eagles, osprey, alligators and Manatees.  Bottlenose dolphins are also regularly seen playing in the river!  Northern Merritt Island features the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge which offers tours of the various wild and plant life in the area.
